Description of Courses on the Syllabus

 

( أنج211) Communications Skills: This course aims at developing better listening comprehension، and improving pronunciation skills `lls for successful communication. It also provides students with the opportunity to improve their interpersonal communication skills and basic work in the fundamentals of spoken English such as correct pronunciation and intonation.

 

( أنج212): Study Skills:This course is intended to improve the students involvement in various academic activities، their mastery of comprehension skills، reading strategies and vocabulary at an advanced level. The course also introduces students to the skills of anticipation، skimming، scanning and summarizing. Students should be acquainted with various research skills، and develop skills which help them become independent learners.

 

( أنج213) Grammatical Analysis:The course aims at introducing the students to the techniques of grammatical analysis. It particularly concentrates on presenting the English grammatical forms (words، phrases، clauses and sentences) and functions (word level، phrasal level and clausal functions).

 

( أنج214) Introduction to English Literature:This course aims to introduce the students to English literature forms before taking deeper and more advanced literary courses.

 

( أنج215) English Phonetics:This course introduces the students to speech sounds and how they are produced. A full study of the organs of speech is essential.

 

( أنج216) English Phonology:This course is mainly concerned with the difference between phonetics and phonology(definitions). The sylluble:

 

  a. the nature of the syllable

 

  b. the structure of the English syllables

 

  c. strong and weak syllables

 

  d. syllabic consonants

 

   Stress in simple word

 

  The nature of stress

 

  levels of stress

 

 c. placement of stress within the word

 

 d. Intonation

 

( أنج217) Listening Skills and Speaking:This course is designed to provide students with basic instruction and extensive practice in the skills of listening and speaking. Emphasis should be placed on understanding and the articulatory problems of students. Skills in oral communication should be noticed.

 

( أنج311) Communication Skills:This course is intended to:

 

enhance students’ skills at oral and written communication and improve their abilities to deal with authentic texts of a variety of genres to improve students’ presentation skills.

 

( أنج312) Grammatical Analysis:This course is a supplement and continuation to the course (213) previously offered. Students will be assigned practical work in grammar analysis.

 

( أنج313) English phonetics:

 

1. This course is to refresh what has already been studied in English Phonetics، and it also deals with:

(a) Special symbols to represent sounds (Transcription)

 

(b) Practice (oral and written)

 

(c)Practice in using the dictionary for the purpose of     pronunciation

 

( أنج314) English Syntax:This course deals with how the language operates at the level of word-order in phrases and sentences. It enriches the students of the language with some of the well-known approaches to the study of syntax. Authentic examples from literary texts make this study more stimulating.
